About us
Pen&Quill is a 501(c)(3) literary nonprofit dedicated to igniting and nurturing the love for writing among the youth
our mission
At Pen&Quill, we are committed to investing in the creative voices of our future. We believe that writing is not just an academic requirement, but a vessel for individuals to share their unique perspectives and stories.
Our mission is to empower and inspire the next generation of diverse writers by providing free, equitable resources, mentorship, and opportunities. Ultimately, we aim to create a platform where young writers can gain confidence and pursue their literary aspirations. With just a pen and a quill, we believe young writers can change the world.
OUR SUPPORTERS
where we started
Pen&Quill emerged from Jamie's personal journey as a young writer. Initially, she never envisioned creative writing as a feasible career path; however, it was transformative experiences at workshops like Kenyon's Young Writers and 92NY’s Young Writers Workshop that opened her eyes to new possibilities. Through these workshops and the guidance of inspiring teachers, Jamie discovered the profound importance of community for aspiring writers.

Despite Jamie's passion for writing, the biggest challenge she encountered was finding a place to nurture my skills and connect with fellow writers. Motivated to address this, she approached her friend, Lucy Pupolo, with the idea of the Pen&Quill. Together, Jamie and Lucy worked to make it a reality. Now, leading P&Q, Jamie finds it has evolved into something bigger than she could have ever imagined.
